Rock Wool

Plants growing on rock wool attract the solution from rock wool, causing the ratio of air to solution to increase. Therefore, if there is a high need for air in the root zone; excessive time between waterings increases the percentage of air.The blood pressure required to deliver rock wool to solution increases only when the rock wool dries. This means that the plant takes the solution from saturated rock wool.
Meanwhile, rock wool gives 50-70% of its moisture to the plant. For this reason, the plant developed in rock wool does not undergo water stress until the rock wool is completely dry.
The arrangement of rock wool blocks in the greenhouse depends on the plant.Usually the floor is covered with white or optionally black and white polyethylene.Rock wool blocks are placed in rows and holes are drilled on the blocks for plants, and water drippers are placed in the holes. The irrigation system is opened and the blocks are filled with solution.Seedlings are placed on blocks. With plastic floor, drainage holes are drilled in the blocks.
The most important factor in the regulation of the system; is the measurement of pH and EC in the block.Samples should be taken in the morning hours as much as possible.Although the substrate has significant buffering, EC and pH may vary throughout the day.In this, the concentration of salts in the block should be regulated.
